Part 4

Luke 5:17; Genesis 2:18; Galatians 6:2
Have you ever been so worn out that you needed someone to carry you, but couldn’t bring yourself to ask? Pastor Ken shares a night he spent flat on his family room floor, then turns to the friends in Luke 5 who lowered a paralyzed man through a roof to reach Jesus. His point is that isolation keeps people stuck, and God uses people to bring us back into belonging. This one is for anyone who has been quietly handling life alone.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE
Is asking for help a sign of weak faith?
Pastor Ken says no. Asking for help is proof you understand how God works, and in God’s kingdom it is an act of faith. He points to Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens,” and says the enemy wants us to believe that needing help is weakness so we stay hidden and alone.
Why do I feel lonely even when I’m around people?
The message says isolation isn’t only being physically alone. It can be an inner voice saying “I’ll handle this myself,” “I don’t want to burden anyone,” or “they’d think less of me if they knew,” so we hide behind “I’m fine.” Pastor Ken also cites research he says ties loneliness to serious health risks, and argues it is more than a personality quirk.
What does the paralyzed man in Luke 5 teach about community?
The man could not have reached Jesus on his own. His friends refused to leave him behind, found a way in through the roof, and lowered him down, and Luke 5:20 says Jesus saw “their faith.” Pastor Ken takes that to mean your faith can help carry someone who can’t carry themselves, and that being near Jesus without community changes nothing.
Is loneliness part of how God made us?
No. In Genesis 2:18 God says, “It is not good for the man to be alone,” and Pastor Ken notes this was before sin entered the world. Belonging was always the design, and he defines it as being seen, known, and loved, which is more than sitting in a pew, and he says the church exists to help people find it.
How do I start belonging at church instead of just attending?
Pastor Ken points to Hebrews 10:24-25, which urges us not to give up meeting together but to encourage one another. In practice he means joining a small group, connecting with people outside Sunday service, and making sure no one sits, eats, or worships alone, even when that feels uncomfortable.
