2 Corinthians 11:3-4; Galatians 1:6-7; Luke 6:46; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 4:12
Is the Jesus you follow the real one, or one that happens to agree with you? Pastor Ken uses Paul’s warnings about “a different Jesus” in 2 Corinthians 11 and Galatians 1 to name three counterfeits: the life coach who never challenges you, the subscription Jesus you pay into with good behavior, and the participation-trophy Jesus who welcomes every path. He answers with Ephesians 2:8-9 and Acts 4:12. It’s for anyone who suspects their faith has quietly gotten comfortable.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE
What does it mean to follow a “counterfeit Jesus”?
In 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Paul warns about someone preaching “a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached,” and in Galatians 1:6-7 he is astonished that people are turning to a different gospel. Pastor Ken argues the biggest spiritual risk isn’t atheism but following a Jesus who looks right and isn’t. That’s why he urges people to study the Bible for themselves.
What is a “life coach Jesus,” and why is that a problem?
It’s a Jesus shaped to your preferences, like a social feed that learns what you like, so he never convicts or confronts you. Pastor Ken points to Luke 6:46, where Jesus asks, “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?” He adds that real conviction from the Holy Spirit is meant to send you toward the Savior, not away from him.
Do I have to add good works to be saved?
Pastor Ken’s answer is no: the gospel is Jesus plus nothing. Ephesians 2:8-9 says salvation is by grace through faith, “not by works,” and he ties it to Jesus saying “It is finished.” He says things like going to church or giving don’t earn salvation, but they can be an expression of worship once you’ve received it.
Is Jesus really the only way to God?
The message says yes, pointing to Acts 4:12 (“there is no other name under heaven… by which we must be saved”) and John 14:6. Pastor Ken argues that if there were another way, the cross would have been a waste of blood. He frames this not as a God who keeps people out but as a God who came down personally to save them.
