Part 13
Ken Tram
Acts 9:1-19; Matthew 11:28
If you like to be in control, what happens when God interrupts your plans? Pastor Ken tells the story of Saul in Acts 9, a religious man breathing out threats against Christians until Jesus stopped him on the road to Damascus and left him blind. He argues that God sometimes allows disruption so we finally surrender, and that we need people like Ananias to tell us the truth along the way. It’s for anyone tired of running everything their own way.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE
Why would God make Saul blind?
Pastor Ken says Saul was so sure he was serving God that gentle nudges would not have stopped him. Being struck blind in Acts 9 stripped away his control and left him praying (Acts 9:11). Pastor Ken calls it “grace disguised as disruption,” and says God cares more about where we end up eternally than about our comfort.
Does God really allow hard things to wake us up?
Pastor Ken points to Pharaoh and to Jonah and says hardship can be the result of our own sin, but it can also be God getting our attention. He is not saying every hard thing is a message. He ties it to Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
What does surrender look like, and why is it so hard?
Pastor Ken says control comes naturally to us and surrender sounds like weakness, but in God’s kingdom it is where strength comes from. He says you can’t follow Jesus while clinging to your own way, and that you can look religious on the outside while still holding on to control, pride, or idols like success and approval.
Who is an “Ananias,” and why do I need one?
In Acts 9, Ananias goes to the man who persecuted the church, calls him “brother,” and prays for him to see again. Pastor Ken says awakening isn’t a solo act: you need someone who loves you enough to tell you the truth and won’t let you drift. His practical steps are to join a small group or serve team and to build real relationships at church.
