Are You Living Like the Spirit Has Come?

Are You Living Like the Spirit Has Come?

Tina Schuler

Acts 2:1-41; Acts 1:8; Joel 2:28-32; 1 Peter 3:15; John 3:16

Do you hold back from talking about Jesus because someone else would do it better, or because you’re afraid of how people will react? Tina walks through all of Acts 2: the Holy Spirit arriving at Pentecost, Peter correcting the crowd, defending Jesus from the Scriptures, and calling people to repent. The point is that Peter was an ordinary man and the Spirit did the work. It’s for anyone who wants to share their faith with gentleness and truth, without leaning on their own strength.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

What happened at Pentecost in Acts 2?

Tina describes a sound like a violent wind, tongues of fire, and believers filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in other languages that visitors from many nations understood. Peter then explained it as the fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy, pointed to Jesus’ death and resurrection, and about 3,000 people were baptized and added that day.

Why does the Holy Spirit matter if I want to share my faith?

Tina notes that Jesus told the disciples to wait for the Spirit’s power before being his witnesses, in places that included an angry mob, a region that rejected his teaching, and people they despised. The argument is that nobody can respond with patience and gentleness in their own flesh, so we need the Spirit.

How do I talk about Jesus without being harsh or watering down the truth?

Drawing on 1 Peter 3:15, Tina says to be ready to give the reason for your hope with gentleness and respect. The message itself doesn’t change, but the messenger and delivery can: speaking with patience, kindness, and self-control, including on social media, while still not compromising on what Scripture says.

What if I don’t feel qualified to share Jesus?

Tina calls comparing yourself to others a lie that keeps people quiet. Peter had denied Jesus three times, yet the Spirit worked through him, and the same Spirit lives in every believer regardless of age, job, or background. Extraordinary may simply look like one honest conversation, like Jesus’ talk with Nicodemus in John 3.

Do you have to speak in tongues to have the Holy Spirit?

Tina says not everyone has the same experience as the first disciples. The sign they point to is a changed heart: Ezekiel’s promise of a heart of stone replaced by a heart of flesh, and a new love for God’s word, for Jesus, and for worship.
