Part 5
Nathan Holmes
Acts 3:1-12; 1 Peter 4:14
You know you should talk about your faith, and then the moment comes and you freeze. Nathan opens with a story of exactly that kind of missed opportunity, then walks through Acts 3, where Peter and John stop for a man begging at the temple gate and give him what they actually have: the name of Jesus. The message argues that bold faith grows as you step outside your comfort zone, and that the gospel is simpler to share than we make it. It’s for anyone who wants to share Jesus but keeps talking themselves out of it.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE
Why is it so hard to share my faith with other people?
The message points to two things: a comfort zone that keeps us from noticing the needs around us, and a habit of overthinking the gospel until we feel we need every answer before we speak. Nathan admits to being guilty of both, and says the gospel is simple enough to share without being an expert.
What does Acts 3 teach about sharing the gospel?
Peter and John, on their way to pray, notice a man who has begged at the temple gate every day. He asks for money, but they say they have no silver or gold and offer what they do have: healing in the name of Jesus (Acts 3:6). The message draws out that they saw his real need, gave the credit to Jesus, and that this opened the door for Peter to speak to the crowd.
What if someone says no when I share the gospel?
Nathan describes three possible outcomes: the person says yes, the person says no, or we never speak at all. If they say no, the message says our job is to be faithful, not to save anyone, and points to 1 Peter 4:14 on being blessed when people insult us for Jesus’ name. The only real loss, Nathan argues, is never being bold.
How do I become bolder in sharing my faith?
The message teaches that the same Holy Spirit who was in Peter and John lives in every believer, but that knowing this isn’t enough. Boldness grows as we actually step out and let God work through us. Along the way, Nathan says, give God the glory instead of saying “look what we did,” and think of Jesus as a gift to give away, not something to keep to ourselves.
