Jesus Said THIS About Wealth, Life & Eternity!

Ken Tram

Luke 12:13-21; Ecclesiastes 3:11; Matthew 6:19-20

Most of us picture heaven from cartoons, with clouds and harps, and meanwhile keep building something bigger down here without asking what it’s for. Pastor Ken teaches from Jesus’ parable of the rich fool in Luke 12:13-21, where a man tears down his barns to build bigger ones and loses his life that very night. He argues that we should stop storing up what won’t last, because you can’t take it with you, and that heaven is about relationships and, above all, Jesus. It’s for anyone who keeps chasing more and wonders what it’s all for.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE

What does Jesus mean by “life does not consist in an abundance of possessions”?

In Luke 12:15, Jesus answers a man arguing over an inheritance with a warning: watch out and be on guard against all kinds of greed. Pastor Ken notes this was true long before online shopping and still is, and that if your heart is aimed at possessions, that’s what you end up serving. He adds that people store up approval, achievements, and control, not just stuff.

Is it wrong to save money or plan for the future?

Not according to this message. Pastor Ken says the rich man’s problem wasn’t that he prepared, and that God isn’t against planning or saving. The problem was that he stored the wrong things, expected barns to bring him peace and worth, and never acknowledged God as the source of the harvest. He also says this isn’t a tithing message but about where your treasure is.

What does it mean to be “rich toward God”?

Pastor Ken describes it as investing in relationships now, through how you serve, give, and care for people. He says you can’t send a U-Haul to heaven, but you can send treasures ahead. He ties this to Matthew 6:19-20, which contrasts treasures on earth that don’t last with treasures in heaven.

What will heaven be like?

Pastor Ken says his own picture came from cartoons, and that Scripture points somewhere else. He says heaven will be full of people, so it is about relationships, and above all about being with Jesus; the Bible only gives a glimpse, and none of it matters without him. He links our curiosity about eternity to Ecclesiastes 3:11, which says God has set eternity in the human heart.

Why does God call the rich man a fool?

In Luke 12:20 God says, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.” Pastor Ken reads that as a word to all of us, since we are fools when we live as if we are enough without God. He says the things we chase don’t look like they matter until we face death, which is why Jesus wants us to wake up now.
