Part 3
Ken Tram
Psalm 8; 1 Corinthians 9
If nothing you have is really yours, what are you supposed to do with it? Pastor Ken starts with a story about home wiring and why the ground wire matters, then turns to Psalm 8 and Psalm 24:1 to argue that God owns 100% of everything and we are stewards of what he entrusts. Stewardship, he says, covers your time, energy, and relationships as well as your money, and it means living the other 90% on purpose. It’s for anyone who feels like their life is drifting.
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS MESSAGE
What does it mean that God owns everything and I’m only a steward?
Pastor Ken points to Psalm 24:1: the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. You aren’t the owner of your life and belongings but the manager, and he defines stewardship as managing what belongs to God in a way that honors God. He says it isn’t God standing over you with a clipboard; it gives your life direction.
Is stewardship only about money?
No. Pastor Ken says it is bigger than money: your breath, time, energy, influence, opportunities, and friendships are all entrusted to you. He cites 1 Corinthians 9, where Paul says he is entrusted with a stewardship, and James 1:17, that every good gift is from above. Money, he says, is just the easiest one to measure.
What does “90% on purpose” mean?
He recalls that the previous week was about the tithe, the first 10%, and says that doesn’t excuse living however you want with the rest. He calls stewardship “worship with a plan.” His practical list is to plan before spending, save before splurging, give before upgrading, avoid unnecessary debt, live below your means, and practice contentment.
Why do I drift, and how do I stay grounded?
Pastor Ken says drift usually isn’t rebellion; it’s forgetting who owns it all and starting to live like an owner. His fix is to ground yourself the way Psalm 8 does, by remembering the God who made the stars and also gave you a heartbeat, and to ask “What is this for?” about your time, paycheck, and opportunities.
