The Super Bowl is one of the most highly-anticipated events of the year, with millions of people tuning in to watch the biggest game in American football. But for me, it's not just about the game itself. It's about the opportunity it provides for evangelism.
You see, I wasn't always a football fan. In fact, I used to avoid it at all costs. But as I entered full-time ministry, I realized that if I wanted to relate to people, especially men who are furthest away from God, I needed to understand and appreciate the sport. So, I forced myself to watch it, and before I knew it, I had become obsessed with it.
I believe that Jesus would have done the same. He often entered into areas where people gathered, and football is no exception. With close to 100 million viewers tuning into the Super Bowl, it's a prime opportunity to connect with people and share the love of Jesus.
One of the reasons why the Super Bowl is great for evangelism is that it brings people together. Whether it's friends and family gathering to watch the game at home, or fans packing into sports bars and restaurants, the Super Bowl creates a sense of community and camaraderie. This makes it the perfect opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others and to invite them to church.
Football creates a natural conversation starter, and people are already talking about the game, the teams, and the players. This provides an easy way to connect with people and build relationships.
That's why at New Hope, we're taking the opportunity to host a big celebration after church on Super Bowl Sunday. Traditionally, this day is a day where people take a break from church to prepare for the game. But we want to use it as an opportunity for you to invite someone to church they can even sport their favorite NFL team gear! After church then hang out with big inflatables to keep the kids entertained and snacks to keep you going.
We want to provide a fun and inviting atmosphere for people to connect and build relationships with others, and maybe even invite that friend over to your house to watch the game afterwards. This way, they can see how amazing Jesus is and then invite them back to church again.
So, come join us for our Super Bowl celebration after church and let's use this opportunity to connect with others, share the love of Jesus, and build relationships.
See you there!
