I need help reading the Bible!

The Bible is a powerful and transformative book, but it can also be difficult to understand at times. That's why it's okay to be confused by the text and seek out guidance from trusted sources. The good news is that there are many resources available to help us better understand the scripture, and we don't have to go it alone.

One of the keys to studying the Bible is approaching it with humility and a willingness to change. The text is rich with meaning and truth, but it can be easy to get caught up in our own opinions and interpretations. By approaching the text with an open mind and heart, we can better receive its teachings and allow the scripture to shape and transform us.

We recommend a few things that will help you with your journey through the Bible.

Joining a small group is an excellent way to deepen your understanding of the Bible and grow in your relationship with God. By studying the scripture in a supportive community, you'll gain new insights, accountability, and a deeper understanding of the gospel. So, consider joining a small group. It will prove friendships and insight that will last a lifetime!

Life Application Study Bible - NIV

This type of study bible helps to bridge the gap between the Bible and its relevance to our world. It offers explanations and examples that bring the teachings of the Bible to life, making it easier to understand and apply to our daily lives. Whether you're struggling with a particular passage or just looking to deepen your understanding of the text, the Life Application Study Bible can provide the guidance and support you need.

One of the unique features of this Bible is that not only does it help teach you some of the background and cultural reasoning behind passages it also focuses on application. Instead of just offering a historical or theological explanation, it provides practical suggestions for how we can live out the teachings of the scripture in our daily lives. This makes it an ideal resource for those looking to deepen their faith and grow in their relationship with God.

At New Hope we primarily use the New International Version (NIV) however any translation you are comfortable with are great as long as it allows you to read and be transformed through God's word.

Enduring Word - Online Resource/Commentary

This website offers free, in-depth Bible commentaries that help break down passages that may be confusing. Whether you're struggling with a particular verse or just looking for a deeper understanding of the text, Enduring Word provides a wealth of information to help guide your study. It does also include a number of other commentaries that have been reliable and tested through time.

Commentary is just a resource and not the Bible. So it's important as you're reading commentary to remember that it's a resource to help you understand but it's not necessarily there to be a substitute for the Bible.
